Abstract

Binahong (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) is a plant that can be used to treat burns. Burns on the skin can make a person to get an infection from Gramnegative or Gram-positive bacteria like Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853. The purpose of this study, first, to know antibacterial activity of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water fraction from ethanol extract of binahong leaves on P. aeruginosa. Second, to know the fraction that having the most active antibacterial activity on P. aeruginosa. Also, to know MIC and MBC from the most active fraction as antibacterial on P. aeruginosa. The extraction method of binahong leaves powder used maseration method with 70% ethanol. The fractionation process used n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water. Concentrations in difussion method were 50%, 40%, 30% to determine the most active fraction and dilution method to determine the MIC and MBC with concentrations of 50%, 25%, 12,5%, 6,5%, 3,125%, 1,56%, 0,78%, 0,39%, 0, 19%, 0,095%. Data was analyzed using oneway ANOVA. The result of this study showed that ethanol extract, n-hexane, ethyl acetat, and water fraction have antibacterial activity. The most active fraction is water fraction at concentration of 50% which has inhibition zone diameter 18,25 mm. Dilution result showed that water fraction had MBC 12,5%.
