Abstract

Starfruit leaves (Averrhoa carambola L.) are part of starfruit plants that have activity as antikolesterol. This research is purposed to know the anticholesterol activity from ethanol extract of starfruit leaves. Ethanol extract of starfruit leaf starch tested by anticholesterol activity using CHOD-PAP method. The testing is measurement of HDL and LDL levels. This study was carried out for 28 days using 30 male white male wistar strains divided into 6 groups: normal control group, negative control group, positive control group given simvastatin 0.18 mg / 200 g BB, and group of dose extract variation (200 , 400, 600 mg / Kg BW). The obtained data were analyzed using Kolmogorov Smirnov test and continued using One Way Anova to see the differences between test groups. The results of this study indicate that the extract of sweet starfruit leaves ethanol has the ability to increase levels of HDL and decrease LDL serum blood levels of rats given a high-fat diet. The dose of sweet starfruit leaf extract 600 mg / Kg BW has the same ability with simvastatin in increasing HDL level and decreasing LDL level.
