Abstract

Mangosteen leaves contain catechins, mangostins, xanthones, flavonoids and tannins that serve to neutralize free radicals. Flavonoids have antioxidant activity are useful in preventing cell damage due to oxidative stress This study aims to determine the effect of mangosteen leaves ethanol extract on memory and mice learning process using Morris Water Maze (MWM) method with latency time parameter (time of mice to platform). The test animal was white male mice (Mus musculus) Balb / c strain and divided into 6 groups, each group consisting of 5 mice. There were 3 control groups that is normal, negative (CMC 1%), positive (Gingko biloba) and 3 treatment groups with dose of mangosteen ethanol extract (100, 200, and 400 mg / kgBB mice). Induced with 10% ethanol orally. Each treatment group was won on the MWM tool to find the platform. The time requared the mice to find the platforms in each group is then analyzed by the ANOVA test. The results showed that of the three doses of ethanol extract of mangosteen leaves 100, 200, and 400 mg / kgBB mice can improve memory in mice and there is significant difference (p<0.05). The effective dose of mangosteen leaf extract is a dose of 200 mg / kgBB as it is equivalent to a postitive control group. Keyword : Memory, mangosteen leaves, Morris Water Maze (MWM)
