Abstract
Hyperlipidemic is disease which is characterized by increase in total cholesterol level more than normal and belong to the risk factor of cardiovascular disease. The starfruit leaf contain flavonoid, saponin and tannin which are considered can decrease total cholesterol level in the blood. This research aims to determine the activity of the ethanolic extract of star fruit leaf to decrease total cholesterol levels in wistar male rats and to know the effective dose. The extraction of this research used maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent. The research used 30 rats and divided into 6 groups, the normal group, the hyperlipidemic group (CMC 0,5%), the group simvastatin dose of 0,18 mg/200gBW and the ethanolic extract of star fruit leaf groups with three various doses of 200 mg/kgBW, 400 mg/kgBW, and 600 mg/kgBW. Total cholesterol level was measured by CHOD-PAP method on day 0, day 14th and day 28th. The obtained results were analyzed statistically by One Way Anova. The results showed that ethanolic extract of star fruit leaf has activity to decrease the total cholesterol level in blood serum of white rats. The extract dose of 600 mg/kgBW has the equal effect compared to simvastatin in decreasing total cholesterol levels. Keywords : star fruit leaf, extraction, hyperlipidemic
