Abstract
Seaweed is one of the medicinal plants that have shown to have antioxidant activity because it contains flavonoids and phenols. Seaweed extract more efficient and effective if makes in topical gel preparation. This study aims to determine the effect of different concentrations of the gelling agent aqupec HV505 on the physical stability of the gel and its antioxidant activity. Seaweed is extracted by maceration method using ethanol 70%. Gel made in 5 formula wherein4 formula concentration the gelling agent aqupec HV-505 of 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2%. Formula 5 is a positive control (routine gel). Test the antioxidant activity by DPPH method, as well as the observed physical stability include homogeneity, the power spread, the stickiness, viscosity, pH and stability of the gel. The results showed that the gel of seaweed extract in different concentrations had a good homogeneity. The higher the concentration of gelling agent aqupec HV-505 gel viscosity and yield value of adhesion is getting smaller, but the greater dispersive power. Value IC50 of seaweed extract is 77.454 ppm. The test results of antioxidant activity in the gel extracts showed IC50 of formula 1, 2, 3 and 4 in a row is 131.470; 129.064; 121.468 and 130.455 ppm.
