Abstract

Leaves cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.) contain of flavonoid, alkaloid, saponin, and tannin that have antibacterial activity. The aim of this experiment is to know about the activity of ethanolic extract, n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water fraction of leaves cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens L) as an antibacterial to Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Fines of leaves cayenne pepper was remaserated using 70% ethanol then fractinate with n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water. Antibacterial activity test was done using diffusion and dilution method. The concentration of ethanol extract and fraction was 50%; 25%; 12,5% for diffusion and 50%; 25%; 12,5%; 6,25%; 3,125%; 1,563%; 0,781%; 0,391%; 0,195%; 0,098% for dilution. Diffusion is used to determine the inhibitory zones and dilution used to determine the Minimum Inhibitory Conentration and the Minimum Killed Concentration. Statistical analysis using ANOVA one way in order to find out whether are significant differences between the test preparations. Diffusion result shows that ethyl acetate fraction of leaves cayenne pepper has the best antibacterial activity to Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 compare to ethanolic extract, n-hexane, and water fraction. Dilution result also shows that minimum killed concentration of ethyl acetate fraction of leaves cayenne pepper was 6,25% to Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923.
