Abstract

Celery herbs and red ginger rhizome have been studied to have antihiperurisemia activity. Judging from these properties then both plants can be combined for antihiperurisemia therapy. This study aims to determine the antihiperurisemia activity of celery herbs and red ginger rhizome in lowering uric acid levels of male rats hyperuricemia. This study used 35 rats divided into 7 groups. Group I negative control (CMC 0.5%); group II positive control (allopurinol 18 mg/kgbw); group III celery herb extract (EHS) dose 100 mg/kgbw; group IV red ginger rhizome extract (EJM) dose 300 mg/kgbw; groups V, VI, and VII were given a combination of EHS : EJM with a dose of 75% : 25%; 50% : 50% and 25% : 75%. All animal test groups induced chicken liver juice and potassium ocsonate for 18 days. On Day 10th until 18th all groups were given test preparation except negative control. Measurements of uric acid levels were performed on day 0 (T0), day 9th (T1), day 14th (T2), day 16th (T3), day 18th (T4). The results showed that the combined dose of celery herb and red ginger rhizome had antihiperurisemia activity equivalent to single dose. The percentage of antihiperurisemia from the positive control, EHS combination: EJM (75%: 25%), EDS combination: EJM (50%: 50%), EHS, EJM and combination EDS: EJM (25%: 75%) 15.54%; 13.18%; 13.10%; 12.80%; 12.50%; and 12.07%. Keywords: Celery herb (Apium graveoles L.), red ginger rhizome (Zingiber officinale Rosc.), hyperuricemia.
