Abstract
Leaf katuk (Sauropus androgynous (L.) Merr.) Is a plant that has antioxidant activity because one of the content contained in katuk leaf (Sauropus androgynous (L.) Merr.) Is saponin, flavonid and tannin. These compounds can be used to prevent free radicals that can cause premature aging. Katuk leaves extracts is formulated into cream preparations so that in its use can be more convenient, effective, and efficient in delivery active substances. In this study aims to determine the effect of anionic and nonionic emulsion variants on the physical properties of the cream and antioxidant activity, And can know which emulgator and on the formula that can produce the best cream. Katuk leaf extract (Sauropus androgynous (L.) Merr.) was prepared by using maceration method using ethanol solvent 80%. In this study the antioxidant cream of katuk leaf extract (Sauropus androgynous (L.) Merr.) Was formulated by using variation of anionic and nonionic emulgator. Anionic emulgator using (TEA - stearate acid) with TEA concentrations of 1%, 2%, and 3%, using nonionic emulgators (Tween 60 - Span 60) with Values of HLB 13, 14, and 15. Katuk leaf extract added to each of the formula as much 20%. Evaluation on physical characteristics was done based on organoleptic test, homogenity, viscosity, dispersive power, adhesion, pH. Determination of antioxidant activity was done based on DPPH methode, and the value is 47,99%. The results of the katuk leaf extract cream research (Sauropus androgynous (L.) Merr.) Showed that the result of physical quality test of cream by using nonionic emulgator (Tween 60-Span 60), is a good cream, both in physical and antioxidant activity. Creams that have good antioxidant activity are F5 and the value 70,026%. Creams that have good physical quality and good antioxidant activity cream using nonionic emulgator (Tween 60 – Span 60).
