Abstract

Hypertension is defined as a repeatedly elevated blood pressure exceeding 140/90 mmHg. Hypertension in the elderly is often uncontrolled. Uncontrolled hypertension will lead to abnormal kidneys function as the force of blood flow is continually high. This condition causes progressive damage of glomerulus leading protein in the blood pass the urine. The release of large amounts of protein albumin into the urine in hypertension causes the low serum albumin level or hypoalbuminemia. This scientific paper is compiled based on the result of albumin level examination conducted in Setia Budi University’s Laboratory to 30 samples of blood taken from elderly with hypertension in Dharma Bhakti Kasih Nursing Home Surakarta and supported by qualified sources that has been published. Serum albumin level in examination was conducted with photometric Test using bromocressol green Method The result of serum albumin level examination in 30 samples of blood taken from elderly with hypertension indicated that 19 samples (63,3%) developed low albumin level and 11 samples (36,7%) were normal.
