Abstract

Cocoa leaves contain flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, and tannins as antioxidants because of the ability to capture free radicals and reactive oxygen species such as superoxide anions and hydroxyl radicals. Memory decline is influenced by the contribution of oxidative stress. Oxydative stress is an unbalanced state of production Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) with the body’s antioxidant defense system. Flavonoids have antioxidant activity that is useful in preventing cell damage due to oxidative stress. This research is to know the effect of cherry leaf juice on improving memory of mouse by using Morris Water Maze method with parameter used at latency time (when mouse reach platform). Memory testing was performed on 25 male mouse, the test animals were divided into 5 groups, group 1 until group 5. Group 1 negative control (Aquadest), positive control group (Ginkgo biloba), group 3 treatment with cherry leaf dose (2.6 mg, 13 mg, 26 mg / kgBB). Each treatment group was won on a Morris water maze tool to find the platform and recorded time reaching the platform. Results showed that the three doses of cherry leaf juice 2.6 mg, 13 mg, 26 mg / kgBB mice can improve the memory of white mice. The effective dose of cherry leaf juice is 2.6 mg / kgBB because the difference is not far from the positive control group. Keywords: Memory, Cherry leaf, Morris Water Maze, Antioxidant
