Abstract

The essential oil of basil leaves (Ocimum basilicum) have components of eugenol compound classified to phenol compound which has antiseptic effect and nutmeg seeds (Myristic fragrans Houtt) have phenolic and terpenoid compounds that can obstruct various bacterial growths. This study aims to determine whether the essential oil of basil leaves (Ocimum basilicum), nutmeg seeds (Myristic fragrans Houtt) and the combinations of both have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. The method used in this study was diffusion method using the concentration of 12.5%, 25%, 50% with a combination of 1: 1, 1: 2, 2: 1, 1: 3, 3: 1. The data obtained from the research was then processed by using statistical analysis of varians (ANOVA) with two-way method, finally, it could be obtained significant results from the data. After collecting and calculating the data with diffusion method, the Researcher found the biggest inhibitory power from the combination at a concentration of 50% that was a combination of 3: 1 with a resistor diameter of 25.25 +0.901. Whereas a single yield at 50% concentration of basil leaves (Ocimum basilicum) 23.36 + 0.125 and nutmeg (Myristic fragrans Houtt) 16.00 + 0.901. Based on the result, the combination of essential oil of basil leaves (Ocimum basilicum) and nutmeg seeds (Myristic fragrans Houtt) have activity as antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923.
