Abstract

Plants which were known to have antibacterial effect were soursop (Annona muricata L.) and betel (Piper betel L.). Flavonoids, tanins, and saponins contained in both soursop and betel had antibacterial activity. The aim of this research was to know the ability of combination cream of ethanol extract of soursop leaves and betel leaves to heal wound on back of rabbit caused by Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, to know effective concentration of cream combination that could heal wound, to know pharmacology effect of cream combination, and to know stability of cream during research. The solvent used in this research was 70% ethanol with the method of extraction was maceration. The parameters of the cream combination observed were concentration 12,5%:5%, 25%:5%, 12,5%:10% and storage time for 21 days. Observation of healing time of rabbit's back wounds was done by observing the duration of healing after the administration of cream characterized by loss of erythema, edema and pus. The data obtained were analyzed by one-way ANOVA (significant p <0.05). The combination cream of ethanol extract of soursop leaves and betel leaves had the effectiveness of healing bacterial infection of Staphylococcus aureus. The combination cream of ethanol extract of soursop leaves and betel leaves with the comparison of soursop concentration 12,5%: betel 10% had the most effective antibacterial activity for wound healing caused by Staphylococcus aureus. The combined cream of ethanol extract of soursop leaves and betel leaves had good cream stability.
