Abstract

Calcium is a mineral found in the body and about 50% in the number of ionized and ionized calcium which can only be used by the body. Unhealthy lifestyles such as smoking can effects the levels of calcium in the body such as hypocalcemia. Toxins and heavy metals such as cadmium in cigarettes and nicotine can interfere with the process of absorption of calcium in the gut which causes disruption of calcium metabolism. This research aims to know the description of blood calcium levels in smokers over age 35 years. Writing a scientific Paper is compiled based on assessment is done in the chemical laboratory of the Clinic the Setia Budi University, using a sample of venous blood of smokers by age over 35 years, by making the blood serum and done the addition reagents calcium, and calcium reagent standard followed by incubation for 5 minutes.After it examined the levels of calcium on 300 microlab Photometer instrument. Based on the results of laboratory examination of venous blood samples of 20 smokers aged over 35 years, obtained the results by as much as 85% of blood calcium levels less than 15% normal and normal calcium levels.This indicates the presence of blood calcium levels decrease in smokers over age 35 years.
