Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a disease with known as oxidative stress component that can lead to various complications. Medicinal plants with antioxidant potential may be used as an alternative treatment of diabetes to prevent and protect body cells against further damage after diabetes. The traditional crop that widely available in East Nusa Tenggara, and now used as antidiabetic drugs is faloak tree bark. The purpose of this study was to determine antidiabetic activity and dose of ethanol extract of the most effective faloak’s bark as antidiabetic drugs. This research was used six groups of Wistar male rats. The first group as a normal control; the second group as a control group of diabetic (alloxan); the third as a comparison group (glibenclamide); the fourth, fifth and sixth group as test groups faloak stem bark ethanol extract at a dose of 65 mg / kg, 130 mg / kg and 260 mg / kg for 14 days. In this research measurement body weight of rats and blood glucose levels in mice by using glucose oxidase (GOD-PAP). The results showed that ethanol extract of faloak’s bark dose of 260 mg/ kg decreased blood sugar levels that almost the same as the comparison group (glibenclamide) compared to the dose of 65 mg/kg and 130 mg/kg with a decrease percentage in sugar blood on day 14 amounted to 46.07% and a comparison group of 47, 99%. Keywords: faloak’s Bark (Sterculia quadrifida R.Br.), antidiabetic, glucose oxidase, alloxan.
