Abstract

The essential oil of red ginger rhizome and basil leaf contains linalool and citral which are as antifungal. The study aimed to know the activity of the combination of essential oil of red ginger rhizome (Zingiber officinale Var Rubrum) and basil leaf (Ocimum basillicum L) as antifungal against Candida albicans ATCC 10231. The method of this study used a diffusion method with 50%, 25%, 12.5% disc disc and 1: 1, 1: 3 3: 1 ratio and the method was diluted with dilution series with concentration of 50%, 25%, 12, 5%, 6.25%, 3.125%, 1.56% and 0.78% respectively. The essential oil of red ginger rhizome is obtained by distillation of water vapor. The parameters used were to see the inhibitory zone diameter in diffusion and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) on dilution. The results based on diffusion test showed a combination of essential oil of red ginger rhizome and basil leaf at a ratio of 1: 1, 1: 3, 3: 1 each having inhibition zone of 13.2 mm, 12mm, and 13 mm. In the dilution of KHM values obtained at concentrations of 1.56% and KBM 3.125%. Based on the results obtained it can be concluded that the largest antifungal activity on a 1: 1 ratio with a zone of 13.2 mm inhibition.
