Abstract

Inflammation is a local protective response caused by injury or tissue damage. Binahong leaf and kemangi leaf contain alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids and polyphenols. This study was aimed to determine the anti-inflammatory effects and to determine the optimal dose of ethanol extract combination of 70% leaf binahong and kemangi as anti-inflammatory. Leaf binahong (Anredera cordifolia (tenore) Steen) and kemangi leaf (Ocimum sanctum L.) was extracted by maceration method using 70% ethanol solvent. The anti-inflammatory effect test was performed on 35 rat divided into 7 groups (negative control of CMC Na 0.5%, positive control of diclofenac Na, single binahong leaf extract, single kemangi leaf extract, combination of binahong leaf extract and kemangi leaf comparison 1:1, 2:1, and 3:1), measurements were performed after one hour of injection of 1% carrageenan on the sole of the rat foot subplantarly. Edema volume measured for 7 hours then calculated the value of Area under the curve and % antiiflammatory power. The data obtained were analyzed by One-way ANOVA, followed by the difference test of Dunnet. The results showed that the ethanol extract 70% of binahong and kemangi had antiinflammatory effectiveness. The dose of single-ethanol binahong extract, single kemangi ethanol extract, combination of ethanol extract of binahong leaf and 1:1, 2:1, and 3:1 kemangi leaves, hadantiinflammatory power of 35,424%, 32,472%, 34,686%, 38,376%, and 41,697%. The dose of binahong leaf extract which had the highest anti-inflammatory effectiveness in this study was on the combination of ethanol extract of binahong leaf and kemangi leaf with a ratio of 3: 1. Keywords: anti-inflammatory, combination of binahong leaf and kemangi ethanol extract, karagenan.
