Abstract

Black Pepper (Piper nigrum L.) a plant that is used as a traditional medicine that contains alkaloid, essential oils, flavonoids and saponin. This research was aimed to know the effect of tonic extract of black pepper ethanol on male white mice and to know the effective dose of black pepper ethanol extract that gives the effect of tonic against male white mice. This research test animal were divided into 5 groups and each group consisted of 5 male white mice of swiss webster. Group I (negative control) is aquadest 0.5 ml /20 g BB, group II (positive control) that is caffeine 100 mg / Kg BB, group III is black pepper extract dose 50 mg / Kg BB, group IV is black pepper extract dose 100 mg / Kg BB, group V that is black pepper extract dose 200 mg / Kg BB. This research was conducted with mice swim, and then observed and recorded the fatigue time before and after treatment. The results showed that the extract of ethanol 70% black pepper has some tonic activities toward white mice of swiss webster and the effective dose obtained a tonic effect on the ethanolis extract of black pepper dose 200 mg / Kg BB with an average of restriction a fatigue is 17,41 minute. The average addition of a fatigue each group I, II, III, IV, and V respectively is 4,05; 10,51 ; 7,24 ; 14,15 ; 17.41 minutes. Key word : Black Pepper (Pipper Nigrum L.), Tonic, Extract
