Abstract
Cockroach is organism that can be a cause of sharing the type of disease. American cockroach (Periplaneta americana (L.) is the most common type of cockroach found in the Indonesian environment. Cockroach have a considerable role in the transmission of disease even as mechanical vector for some pathogenic microorganism that can move Salmonella sp, so cockroach becomes the cause of disease spread such as dysentery. In Mojosongo market, there are many cockroaches that roam on the goods which are vegetables, meat and fruits. The purpose of this study was to determine the presence of Salmonella sp on cockroach in the Mojosongo market, Surakarta. Sampling of cockroach in Mojosongo market, Surakarta with 5 samples of cockroach taken each from trash, chicken shelter, public bathroom ceiling, western sewer, and western corner of the market. Cockroach catching was done directly which is cockroaches given bait then captured and accommodated on sterile container then closed tightly. Cockroach sample preparation was inserted in erlenmeyer tube and then added 25 ml of meadest, shake until the precipitate formed. Identification of Salmonella sp was done by frying on medium of Endo Agar and Salmonella Shigella Agar (SSA ). Gram staining and biochemical test were then performed. The results concluded that from the five samples of cockroaches obtained from Mojosongo market, Surakarta, showed that found Salmonella sp bacteria in all four samples of cockroaches, while in sample 1 of cockroach did not found any Salmonella sp .
