Abstract
The production of over abundance free radical can cause oxidative damage and inflict degenerative disease. Catalase enzyme which are one of intracell endogenous antioxidant enzyme will experience activity decrease because of oxidative stress. Dayak onion bulbs (Eleutherine palmifolia (L.) Merr.) have the potential as oxygen antioxidant which can help antioxidant enzyme overcome free radical. The purpose of this research are to discover the effect of dayak onion bulbs and it’s dose, which can increase the activity of catalase enzyme. This research was using sample of 30 white tailed male rat aged 2-3 months with body weight of ± 200 grams which were separated in 6 groups. These are normal control, negative control (Na CMC), positive control (Curcuma®), the ethanol extract of dayak onion bulbs with the dose of 40,5 mg/kg BB, 81 mg/kg BB, and 162 mg/kg BB, for 14 days. In day 14th, the rat would be paracetamol induced with the dose of 2,5 g/kg BB. In day 15th, the rat would be euthanized and it’s liver would be taken out to analyzed it’s catalase enzyme level. All of the result of catalase enzyme level measurement data were analyzed with Shapiro-Wilk to discover data normality. Later it’s analyzed with One Way ANOVA test and later continued with Tukey HSD test. The results of the research showed that ethanol extract of dayak onion bulbs with the dose of 40,5 mg/kg BB, 81 mg/kg BB, and 162 mg/kg BB could ncreased catalase enzyme activity of paracetamol induced male wistar rat. The dose of 162 mg/kg BB have the highest ability to increased catalase enzyme activity in rats liver. Keywords: catalase, dayak bulbs extract, antioxidant
