Abstract
Cranberry Seed Oil is botanical oil that contains high antioxidants and is useful for eliminating free radicals. Essential oils generally have less stable properties against high temperatures, UV rays, and moisture that cause the ease of oxidation. Encapsulation can provide a solution to the problem. This study aims to increase the bioavailability of active substances and to protect external influences. This research will be encapsulated cranberry seed oil with PVA polymer using sonication method. The three formulas which were varied were PVA with concentrations of 1%, 2%, 3% and sonication time of 15 minutes, 20 minutes 25 minutes. This is followed by characterization through observation of particle size, potential zeta, freeze thaw cycle test, and centrifugation test. The results of this study showed that the formula with PVA concentration of 1%, Tween 80 5%, Cranberry Seed Oil 1% in sonication time 15, 20, 25 minutes giving particle size 240.80 ± 0.02; 263.10 ± 0.02; 233.70 ± 0.01 nm, polydispersity index of 0.139; 0.211; 0,115, and zeta potential value -8,96 ± 0,68; -6,89 ± 0.75; -3.11 ± 0.16, but it has poor stability. Keywords: encapsulation, cranberry seed oil, sonication, PVA
