Abstract

The use of isoniazid (INH), rifampicin for the treatment of tuberculosis should be used rationally to prevent hepatotoxicity on the liver. One of the plants that can be used to protect the liver, i.e., dayak onion because contains antioxidant compound. The purpose of this study was to determine the activity of dayak onion extract can reduce the levels of ALT and AST in male rat were isoniazid and rifampicin-induced, and determine the most effective dose as hepatoprotector. Total of 30 test animals grouped 5 rats each. Normal control, negative control, positive control, extract 8.1 mg/200 g BW rat, extract 16.2 mg/200 g BW rat, extract 24.3 mg/200 g BW rat. After treatment for 7 days, blood taken and measured the levels of ALT and AST in the blood. Data were statistically tested using SPSS 17 to determine the most effective dose. The results showed that dayak onion extract could reduce the levels of ALT/AST in male rat isoniazid and rifampicin-induced. The most effective dose was 24.3 mg/200 g BW rat.
