Abstract

Pain is defined as a sensory and emotional experience that not associated with tissue damage. The aims of the research were to determine analgesic effect of Abelmoschus esculentus L. fruits ethanolic extract and to determine the dose of Abelmoschus esculentus L. fruits that can provide an effective analgesic activity, and to determine effectiveness of Abelmoschus esculentus L. ethanolic extract as narcotic analgesic with Tail Flick method or as non narcotic analgesic with Randall Selitto method. Abelmoschus esculentus L. fruit was extracted by maceration method with ethanol 96%. 25 male white rats strain wistar divide in 5 groups, positive control mefenamic acid 9 mg/200 g bw to Randall Selitto method and tramadol 0,9 mg/200 g bw to Tail Flick method, negative control CMC Na, Abelmoschus esculentus L. fruits ethanolic extract doses 50 mg/200 g bw, 100 mg/200 g bw and 200 mg/ 200 g bw. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and LSD test was done to know the difference between the treatmeant groups. The result of the research showed that ethanolic extract doses 50 mg/200 g bw, 100 mg/200 g bw, 200 mg/200 g bw and positive control significantly different with negative control. Extract doses 100 mg/200 g bw and 200 mg/200 g bw of Randall Selitto method compare with mefenamic acid, extract doses 200 mg/200 g bw of Tail Flick method compare with tramadol. Flavonoid compounds contained in Abelmoschus esculentus L. fruits are thought to have an analgesic effect. Kata kunci : Analgesic, Randall Selitto, Tail Flick, okra fruit
