Abstract
Appendicitis is inflammation due to infection of the appendix. This infection can lead to pus. If the infection gets worse, the appendix may break. Appendicitis treatment done by appendectomy. Prophylactic antibiotic used to inhibit bacteria. use of prophylactic antibiotic can inhibit infection. This study was aimed to determine the use of prophylactic antibiotic drugs in appendicitis patients at surgical ward of Dr. Soediran Mangun Sumarso Hospital in 2015 and 2016. The research was descriptive study with retrospective data collection from medical records of appendicitis surgical patients in 2015 and 2016. The data of this study was the use of antibiotics in appendicitis surgical patients in Dr. Soediran Mangun Sumarso Hospital. The method used was Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical (ATC) or Defined Daily Dose (DDD). The results of the study concluded that the profile of DU90% of prophylactic antibiotics in 2015 were cephalosporion class (ceftriaxone (23.01%) and cefotaxime (16.04%), aminoglycoside calss gentamicyn (20.04), nitroimidazole group, metronidazole (31, 17%) and antibiotic combination cefoperazone sulbaktam (9.75%). In 2016 cephalosporion class were ceftriaxone (26.40%) and cefotaxime (15.21%), aminoglycoside class namely gentamicyn (32,00), nitroimidazole group metronidazole (16,69%) and antibiotic combination cefoperazone sulbaktam 9.70%). The suitability of prophylactic antibiotic use in 2015 and 2016 with Hospital Formulary was 100%. While the prophylactic antibiotic use with ASHP guideline (2013) was 100%.
