Abstract

Pain is only symptom and mechanism in body which functions as danger signal about existence disturbance in tissue like inflammation, infection or muscle seizures. Inflammation is a response to tissue damage due to various stimuli that harm both chemical and mechanical stimuli, infection as well as foreign objects such as bacteria and virus. This study was aimed to determine the effect of analgetic and anti-inflammation ethanol extract of Karamunting stem. The Karamunting Stem was extracted by maceration method use solvent 96% ethanol. Tests of analgetic and anti-inflammation were divided into five groups, those are negative control group (CMC Na), positive control group (Tramadol and Na diclofenac), test group of Karamunting stem extract (doses of 100 mg/kg BW, 200 mg/Kg BW, and 400 mg/kg BW). Analgetic test use Tail Flick method while anti-inflammation test use Rat hind paw oedema method 1% carrageenan-induced. Data analysis use Saphiro-wilk test then continued with one way ANOVA test. The result shows that ethanol extract of Karamunting Stem could give analgetic and anti-inflammation effects. At dose of 200 mg/kg BW had effect as analgetic, while at doses of 200 mg/kg BW and 400 mg/kg BW had antiinflammation effect.
