Abstract

Plaque is the cause of dental caries, a soft layer formed from several mixtures including leucocytes, enzymes, macrophages, inorganic components, extracellular matrix, food debris and bacteria attached to the tooth surface. Dental caries is the destruction of hard tissues of teeth caused by the acid present in carbohydrates through intermediate microorganisms present in the saliva. This study aims to determine the antimicrobial activity of SLS, H2O2 and triclosan to S. mutans ATCC 25175 and C. albicans ATCC 10231. Antimicrobial sensitivity test was performed using diffusion and dilution methods. The concentrations used in the diffusion method were 12%, 6%, and 3% aimed at knowing the most active substances and comparing the sensitivity between S. mutans ATCC 25175 and C. albicans ATCC 10231 against the most active chemicals. The most active chemistry was then diluted to determine the value of KHM and KBM. Statistical analysis using ANOVA oneway to determine whether there is a significant difference between the test preparation. The results showed that sodium lauryl sulphate SLS, H2O2 and triclosan had antimicrobial activity. The most active chemicals to S. mutans ATCC and C. albicans ATCC 10231 are SLS, SLS is more effective in inhibiting the growth of C. albicans ATCC 10231 fungi. KHM value and KBM of SLS chemicals against S. mutans ATCC 25175 and C. albicans ATCC 10231 respectively are 0.75%, and 0.187%.
