Abstract

Guava leaf contains compounds of flavonoid, alkaloid, tannin, and saponin that had antibacterial activity. Binahong leaf contains compounds of secondary metabolite that is flavonoid, alkaloid, tannin, steroid, triterpenoid, and saponin, The study aimed to know the activity of the combination between ethanol extract of guava leaf and binahong leaf as antibacterial to Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Guava leaf powder and binahong leaf were macerated with 96% ethanol, and combinaton, the extracts tested for antibacterial activity using dilution method, with concentrations of 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%, 3.12%, 1.56% 0.78%, 0.39%, 0.19%, and 0.09%, consecutevely, against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 bacteria. The results showed that ethanol extract of guava leaf more effective than binahong leaf as antibacterial to Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, with minimum killing concentration for guava and binahong leaf were 6.25% and 12.5%, consecutevely, while results for combination showed minimum inhibition concentration for a ratio of 1: 1 was 12.5%, 1: 3 was 25%, and 3: 1 was 6.25%. Guava leaf and binahong leaf have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, but if combined the activity becomes decreased. Keywords : Psidium guajava L., Anredera cardifolia.
