Abstract

Microakbuminuria is a first marker of renal impairment in DM nephropathy and gedi merah leaves (Abelmoschus manihot) is one of the traditional plants that can be used for DM. Thus, the purpose of this study was to find out effect of ethanol extract gedi merah to reduce microalbuminuria and renal histopathology diabetic rats-induced Streptozotocin-nicotinamide along with the optimal dosage were given. This study used 35 male wistar rats induced with intraperitoneeal injection of STZNA with dosage 45 mg/Kg BW and 110 mg/Kg BW, divided into 7 group. Rats diagnosed DM for 15 days were injected with STZ-NA and orally given with the extract for 14 days. The parameter were the mikroalbuminuria lever and histopathology of kidney organs. Data analysis used ANOVA test method and continued with LSD Post Hoc test. Statistic analysis result extract extract gedi merah leaves group had an effect to decrease microalbuminuria and renal histopathology. Optimal dosage extract gedi merah leaves to decrease microalbuminuria 400 mg/Kg BW rat but not better than glibenclamide and pioglitazone group. Optimal dosage extract gedi merah leaves to renal histopathology 200 and 400 mg/Kg BW rat which meant the red gedi leaves extract has a same effect with the pioglitazone group and glibenklamid group not had an effect to renal histopathology.
