Abstract
Kersen leaf (Muntingia calabura L.) contains flavonoid compounds that have antiangiogenesis activity as well as alkaloid compounds, saponins and tannins that have antimitotic activity that can disrupt the growth and development of the fetus. This study aims to determine the teratogenic effect of ethanol extract of cherry leaf and to know the dose of 100, 200, 400 mg/kgbb on fetal body length, fetal body weight and fetal number. Ethanol extract of kersen leaf obtained from maceration process. This study used 20 female mice and 12 male mice for teratogenic test, divided into 4 groups. The control group was negative with NaCC 0.5%, group I, II and III with ethanol extract of cherry leaves, respectively with doses of 100, 200 and 400 mg / kgbb. This study was carried out for 10 days ie day 6 to day-to-15 pregnancy at the time of organogenesis. On the 17th day of pregnancy, all mice are sacrificed and dissected to take the fetus from the uterus. Observations included: fetal body length, fetal body weight and fetal number. The results of this study showed that administration of ethanol extract of kersen leaves at doses of 200 mg/kgbb and 400 mg/kgbb resulted in decreased fetal length and weight when compared with negative control group, but did not cause death in mouse fetus. Keywords: ethanol extract of kersen leaf (Muntingia calabura L.), teratogenic, organogenesis, Mus musculus.
