Abstract
Syzigium cumini L. Skeel is a local fruit origin from Indonesia that has many benefits for health. One of the compounds contained in Syzigium cumini L. is polyphenols that act as antioxidant. The purpose of this study to determine the antioxidant activity contained in Syzigium cumini L. leaves either in the form of extracts or gel preparations with a difference of 505 HV aqupec base with routine comparator. Syzigium cumini L. leaves were extracted by 70% ethanol solvent reflux method and quantitative test of antioxidant activity was performed by DPPH method using methanol and qualitative solvent with Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) with butanol: acetic acid: water (4: 1: 5). The result of physical quality test of gel preparation was obtained stable result at room temperature storage, from result of physical quality test of formula 3 most effective applied to skin. The results of testing of antioxidant activity on Syzigium cumini L. extract was obtained IC50 value of 67.48 ppm and in formula 1 (aqupec 505 HV 0,5%) had an IC50 value of 187.21 ppm, in formula 2 (aqupec 505 HV 1%) had an IC50 value of 184.81 ppm, in formula 3 (aqupec 505 HV 1,5%) had an IC50 value of 182, 55 ppm, the formula 4 (aqupec 505 HV 2%) had an IC50 value of 184.49 ppm, and in the formula 5 (aqupec 505 HV 1,5% with rutin) had an IC50 value of 172.52 ppm.
