Abstract

Sarang semut (Myrmecodia pendans Merr. & Perry) has tocopherol, flavonoids, and tannin that function as antioxidants. Antioxidants can be used as anti-aging which can prevent premature aging caused by free radicals, sunlight, and pollutants. Sarang Semut plant nest so far has never been made a cream preparation, This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of nest extract made a preparation by using variation concentration emulgator tween 80 and span 80 Sarang semut in the form of powder that has been extracted using multilevel maseration method, made cream preparation using 3 formula emulgator tween 80 and span 80 with ratio 3%, 4%, 5%. Sarang semut cream preparation was tested for physical properties and stability of cream for 21 days and calculated its antioxidant activity by DPPH method (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrilhidrazyl). The data obtained were analyzed using One Sample Kolmogorov Smirnov and One way Anova using SPSS program. Observation of cream physical properties shows that proportion addition of tween 80 and span 80 in formula decreases viscosity and stickiness, and increases dispersion and acidity (pH). The cream stability test obtained concentration of emulgator tween 80 and span 80 3% had better physical stability during 21 days storage. Sarang semut extract and cream of tween 80 and span 80 emulsifier concentrations with comparison 3%, 4%, and 5% have antioxidants activities with IC50 values successively are 334,081 ppm; 371,247 ppm; and 503,609 ppm.
