Abstract
Gedi leaf (Abelmoschus manihot L) contains flavonoid, tannin, dan alkaloid that expected to have activity in burns healing. The purpose of this study is to know and prove the effect of ethanol extract of gedi leaf and the optimum level of gedi leaf towards burns healing with diameter of wound as the parameter in white New Zealand rabbits This research is used 5 rabbits, each rabbits was standarized with 5 burns on back of rabbits. Standarization of burn wound on back of the rabbits was used a 2 cm metal plate. The 5 group of wound were given a hydrocarbon-ointment bases with concentration about 6,25%, 12,5%, 25 %, positive control (Mebo Ointment), and negative control (Ointment bases). The treatment on rabbits was treated about 21 days and measured the diameter of burn wound everyday. Gedi leaf ointment was test for the stability included the physics quality test, viscosity test, spreading test, and adherence test. The data were analyzed with paired sample T-test and one-way ANOVA. The result showed that ointment of ethanol extract of gedi leaf was stable during the test. Ointment of ethanol extract of gedi leaf at all concentration showed wound healing activity and concentration 12,5% can gave optimum activity towards burn wound healing with average percentage of diameter closing was 98,12% . Keywords : ethanol extrac, gedi leaf, ointment, burn wound, wound healing.
