Abstract

Binahong (Anredera cordifolia (Tenore) Steen.) leaf have chemical contents of flavonoid and saponin are thought to have antibacterial activity. The purposeof this studywas to determine theactivity of ethanolicextract, n-hexane, ethyl acetate andwater fractions from Binahong (Anredera cordifolia (Tenore) Steen) asantibacterial of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853. Binahong leaf extracted by maserationusing 70% ethanol then fractionated using n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water solvents. Ethanolic extract, n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water fractions were tested the antibacterial activity using diffusion method, with concentration of 50%, 25%, 12,5%. The results showed that the n-heksan fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, and water fraction binahong leaf has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 at a certain concentration. Inhibitory average diameter extract, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction and water fraction with the concentration 50% at Staphylococcus aureus respectively, 12 mm, 12.33 mm, 15.33 mm, dan 14 mm.. Inhibitory average diameter with the concentration 50% at Pseudomonas aeruginosa respectively 12.33 mm, 13.33 mm, 16.67 mm, dan 14.33 mm. The most active fraction against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa is the ethyl acetate fraction.
