Abstract

Matoa is one of the medicinal plants which has chemical coumpounds such as flavonoid, saponin and tanin which has activity to decrease triglyceride level in the blood. This research aims to determine the antihyperlipidemic activity of 96% ethanol extract of matoa leaves on triglyceride levels of hyperlipidemic male white rats. The experimental study was conducted for 28 days used 30 rats divided into 6 groups: normal group, negative group (CMC 0.5%) positive group (gemfibrozil 10,8 mg/200 g BW white wistar rats). Various extract doses of 100 mg / kg BW, 200 mg / kg BW, 400 mg / kg BW. All treatment groups except the normal group were given a high-fat diet and propylthiouracil induction for 14 days. The triglyceride levels were measured on day 0, day 14th and day 28th by GPO-PAP methode. The results were analyzed statistically used One Way Anova. The results showed that matoa leaf extract dose of 100 mg / kg BW, 200 mg / kg BW and 400 mg / kg BW can decrease triglyceride levels, the percentages in row are 9,75%, 20,34%, 32,01%. The best percentage reduction was shown at extract dose of 400 mg / kg BW (32.01%) because it has the same potential compared with gemfibrosil (33.97%) potential in lowering triglyceride levels. The result of the research showed that the ethanolic extract of matoa leaf has activity to decrease triglyceride level and most effective dose is the dose of 400 mg / kg BW.
