Abstract

Tonic is a drug that works to strengthen the body and stimulate appetite. The effect of tonic is the stimulating effect and strengthening the organ system and stimulates cellular tonus muscle repair. Fruit from Black Pepper plant (Piper nigrum L.) with compounds alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and essential oils have benefits and effects as a tonic. This study aims to determine the effect of Black Pepper tonicum formulated into syrup preparations capable of effect on Swiss Webster mice with Natatory Exhaustion method. Black Pepper Powder (Piper nigrum L) is made into a solution of syrup with 3 different concentrations, using Caffeine as a positive control and Aquadest as a negative control. The test animal used was white male Swiss Webster mice weighing ± 20 g, age 2-3 months, grouped into 5 groups each 5 male mucklings of Swiss Webster strain were given oral treatment. Mice were recovered and recorded when they were tired, left for 7 seconds and then rested for 30 minutes. Given treatment in accordance with their respective groups and after 30 minutes was reinstated and recorded time fatigue. Obtained time difference data before and after treatment. The results of this study show that Black Pepper syrup (Piper nigrum L) can be prepared as a syrup preparation that is capable of giving the effect of tonic to Swiss Webster mice.
