Abstract
Binahong leaves (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) is traditionally used as a drug diabetes, constipation, and severe thrush. Binahong leaves contains chemical compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and terpenoids. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of the fraction of n-hekxane, ethyl acetate and water from binahong leaves extract against Strepttococcus mutans ATCC 25175. Binahong leaves powder was extracted by maceration method by ethanol 70%. That obtained extract was fractionated by solvent n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water. The result of fractionation tested antibacterial activity against the bacteria Streptococcus mutans ATCC 25175 used diffusion method with concentration of 50%, 25%, and 12,5% to determine the most active fraction. The most-active fraction is continued dilution method to determine the Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) with concentration of 50%; 25%; 12.5%; 6.25%; 3.12%; 1.56%; 0.78%; 0.39%; 0.20%; 0.10%. Statistical analysis using oneway ANOVA to determine whether there is a significant difference between the test preparation. The result shows the fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water from the extraction of binahong leaves has antibacterial activity against Strepttococcus mutans ATCC 25175. Water fraction is most active fraction with 20,4 mm concentration of 50%, 16,26 mm concentration of 25% and 11,16 mm concentration of 12,5%. Dilution test results water fraction showed antibacterial activity with MBC 12,5%. Keywords : Binahong leaves, fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate fraction, fraction of water, Streptococcus mutans.
