Abstract

Inflammation is a normal protective response to tissue injury caused by physical trauma, hazardous chemicals or microbiological agents. Turmeric rhizome contains curcumin compounds that play a role in anti-inflammatory activity. The purpose of this research is to know the ethanol extract of turmeric rhizome can be made cream preparation, to know cream of ethanol extract of turmeric rhizomes concentration 4%, 8% and 16% have effect as antiinflamasi and know the best concentration of cream. The turmeric rhizome was extracted using maceration method with 96% ethanol solvent, the extract was formulated into cream with concentration of 4%, 8% and 16%. Creams were made to test the physical quality of the cream, then tested anti-inflammatory effect on 25 mice with artificial udem method on rat 1% induced mouse caragenin. Test animals were grouped into 5 groups: negative control group (cream without extract), positive control (Na-diclofenac gel) and treatment group (4%, 8% and 16% concentration). Measurement of the foot udem volume was performed every 30 minutes for 5 hours after induction and calculated anti-inflammatory power values. Then the data were analyzed using Kolmogorov Smirnov with ANOVA advanced test. The results showed that turmeric rhizome extract can be made into cream preparations. The concentration of turmeric rhizome extract 4%, 8% and 16% has anti inflammatory power of 35.56%, 56.51% and 53.02%. The best dose of turmeric rhizome extract as anti inflammation is turmeric extract cream with 8% concentration Keywords : anti-inflammatory, inflammatory, turmeric rhizome, karagenin.
