Abstract
Diabetes conditions can induce of free radicals that can lead to oxidative stress that can cause increased lipid peroxidation that produces malondialdehyde (MDA). Rhoe discolor leaves one source of natural antioxidants. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the ethanol extract of Rhoe discolor leaves in lowering blood glucose level and levels of MDA, and the effective dose of to lowering blood glucose level and levels of MDA. This study was conducted using 30 male Wistar rats induced by alloxan single dose of 150 mg / kg bw intraperitoneally. Divided into six groups. Group I: normal control, group II: negative control (0,5% CMC), group III: positive control (glibenclamide dose of 0,45 mg/kg bw), group IV,V and VI were treated with ethanol extract of Rhoe discolor leaves (EDAH) dose of 200 mg / kg bw, 400 mg / kg bw and 800 mg / kg bw respectively. Treatment was given for 14 days, rat blood was taken. The result was analyzed statistic. The results of this study the ethanol extract of Rhoe discolor leaves decreases blood glucose and MDA level Analyzed statistic blood glucose level and levels of MDA plasma showed that the most effective dose in lowering blood glucose and levels of MDA were dose of 800 mg / kg bw.
