Abstract
Extrapyramidal effects in schizophrenic patients contribute to poor compliance and exacerbation of psychiatric symptoms. Trihexyphenidyl was anticholinergic drug which was commonly use in preventing and treating extrapyramidal symptoms caused by antipsychotic.This research was aimed to find out patterns of trihexyphenidyl usage, rationality of trihexyphenidyl usage in Inpatient Installation of Surakarta Regional Mental Hospital. Data analysis in this research was descriptive study. The data collection was done retrospectively. The sources of data were conducted to medical records of patients who met the inclusion criteria inSurakarta Regional Mental Hospital in the period January to December 2016. The number of samples in this study as many as 300 patients. Obtained data was characteristics of patients, patterns of trihexyphenidyl usage, rationality of trihexyphenidyl usage. Rationality of trihexyphenidyl usage evaluated based on criteria includes right indication, right drug, right patient, and right dosage. A number of 300 cases of the antipsychotics usage in combination with trihexyphenidyl. Combination therapy of the most widely prescribed was trihexifenidyl-chlorpromazine-risperidone (52%). Trihexyphenidyl dose of the most widely prescribed was 2 x 2 mg/day (73%). Antihistamines were the most commonly used class of drugs. Percentage of right indication, patient, drug, and dose in the use of trihexyphenidyl were respectively 88%, 100%, 91% and 100%.
