Abstract
Memory has an important role as a storage system of whatever has been received by the brain. One plant that is believed to have efficacy in improving memory is the leaves of cherry (Muntingia calabura L.) containing flavonoid chemical compounds that have antioxidant. This study aims to determine the effect of ethanol leaf extract cherry on memory improvement in mice test animals by Morris water maze method. This study used 25 white mice (Mus musculus)which were divided into 5 groups, and previously had 10% ethanol induced. Group 1 CMC 1 %(negative control), group 2 Gingko biloba (positive control), groups 3, 4, and 5 were given cherry leaf extract at doses of 100 mg/kgBW, 200mg/kgBW, and 400 mg/kgBW administered orally for 14 days. The test result were analyzed using one way ANOVA. The results of the study showed that the treatment group dose of 100mg/kgBW, 200mg/kgBW, and 400 mg/kgBW was significantly different with 1% CMC control, meanwhile the dose of 400 mg/kgBW did not differ significantly with the positive control. Based on the results this study concluded that ethanol extract of the leaves of cherry group at a dose of 400 mg/kgBW was the most effective dose increasing memory. Keywords: Memory, leaves of cherry, 10% ethanol, Morris water maze.
