Abstract
The fruit of purple eggplant contains flavonoids and acts as an antioxidant that is expected to reduce blood glucose levels and reduce the percentage of necrosis in endocrine cells of Langerhans island. This study aimed to determine the activity of purple eggplant ethanol extract in lowering blood glucose levels and decrease the percentage of necrosis of endocrine cells in alloxan-induced rats. This study used 30 male white male wistar strains divided into 6 groups: group I as normal control; group II as diabetes control; group III as a comparison control; group IV, V, VI as a group of ethanol extract extract of purple eggplant with dose 57,5 mg, 115 mg, 230 mg. The mice were given treatment for 14 days and on the 15th day the test animals were sacrificed and the pancreas was made histologically. Blood glucose measurement using glucometer. The results showed the extract of ethanol purple eggplant fruit dose 230 mg has the most effective activity in lowering blood glucose levels and decreases the percentage of necrosis of endocrine cells of Langerhans island.
