Abstract

Increased levels of BUN and creatinine in the blood is a marker of renal impairment in DM nephropathy and one of the traditional crops that can be used to treat DM is a red gedi leaf (Abelmochus manihot L. Medik). The aim of this research is to know the effect of ethanol extract of red gedi in lowering BUN and serum creatinine in sterptozotosin-nicotinamide induced rats and effective dose that can decrease BUN and serum creatinine levels. This study used 35 male white rats wistar strains induced STZ-NA ip with dose 45 mg / kg and 110 mg / kg body weight, divided into 7 groups. Mice indicated DM for 15 days after STZ-NA induced and given extract for 14 days. Test preparations are given orally. The parameters measured were serum BUN and serum creatinine levels. Data analysis using ANOVA method followed by Post Hoc test. The results of statistical analysis on the extract group had an effect on decreasing BUN levels and serum creatinine. Effective dose of red ged leaf extract to decrease BUN and creatinine serum level is 400 mg / Kg body weight rats but still better in group glibenklamid and pioglitazone. Abelmochus manihot L.
