Abstract
Yodium leaf (Jatropha multifida L.) is a plant that is used empirically as a cure wounds. Yodium leaf chemical constituents are flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins and tanins. This research was conducted to determine the activity of n-hexane fraction , ethyl acetate, water and ethanol extract from the leaves of yodium (Jatropha multifida L.) as antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. The extraction of yodium leaf using maceration method with 70% ethanol solven, Then fractionated using the solvent n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water. The results of fractionation of the antibacterial activity tested against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Concentration of the extract and fraction used for the diffusion method was 50%, 25%, and 12,5%. Whereas the concentration for the dilution method was 50%, 25%, 12,5%, 6,25%, 3,12%, 1,56%, 0,78% and 0,39%. The results of the diffusion test with the disc paper showed that the most effective fraction of the yodium leaf was the ethyl acetate fraction with inhibitory diameter 25,6 mm (50%); 23,3 mm (25%); 19,5 mm (12,5%). In the dilution test of KBM obtained by 12,5%. Based on the above results it can be concluded that ethyl acetate fraction has the most effective inhibition diameter at concentration of 50%. Keywords: yodium leaf, fractionation, Staphylococcus aureus, antibacterial.
