Abstract
Insulin resistance causes hyperglycemia state, the state of hyperglycemia would increase reactive oxygen. This will lead to an increase in the production of malondialdehyde in the body. Pike leaves have antioxidant activity which can reduce the reactive oxygen. This study aims to determine the activity of the ethanol extract of leaves of seligi in lowering levels of malondialdehyde. This study was conducted using 30 male Wistar rats were induced by a single dose dexamethasone 1 mg / kg intramuscularly. Divided into six groups, each 5 rats. Group I: normal control, group II: negative control (dexamethasone), group III: positive control (metformin 45 mg/kg bw), group IV, V and V is the group treated with the ethanol extract of seligi leaves dose of 196 mg/kg bw, 392 mg/kg bw and 784 mg/kg bw. Antidiabetic effect was evaluated by using parameters decreased levels of MDA and pancreas organ weights. The results showed that ethanol extracts of seligi leaves dose of 196 mg/kg bw, 392 mg/kg bw and 784 mg/kg bw bw can reduce levels of malondialdehyde but does not affect the pancreas weight. The most effective dose in lowering levels of malondialdehyde was a dose of 784 mg/kg. Keywords: Leaf pike, antidiabetic, malondialdehyde, antioxidants
