Abstract

Mahogany seeds are one of the traditional medicinal plants that can be used as a treatment of peptic ulcer. The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of short sub-chronic toxicity of ethanol extract mahogany seeds (EEBM) on body weight, toxic symptoms and clinical symptoms, the percentage mortality, levels of Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN), creatinine levels, and kidney histopathology male and female wistar strain white rats. Making EEBM by maceration using 95% ethanol. This study used 50 rats consisting of males and females in the 5 groups administered orally for 28 days. The control group was given CMC Na 0,5%, EEBM dose group were given a dose of 200; 400; 800 mg / kg, and a group of satellites. Carried out observations of body weight, toxic symptoms and clinical symptoms, the percentage mortality, levels of BUN, creatinine, and kidney histopathology of rats. The use of EEBM dose of 200; 400; and 800 mg/kgBB given to the rats did not cause a toxic effect on a short subchronic toxicity test. It can be seen from the observations result of EEBM did not affect the body weight; toxic symptoms and clinical symptoms and did not cause the rats death, did not affect the levels of BUN; creatinine levels; and kidney histopathology male and female wistar strain white rats.
