Abstract

Antiinflammatory activity of artocarpus genus had been explored. This study conducted to scientifically prove the efficacy of antiinflammatory ethanol extract of the leaves of the breadnut (Artocarpus communis) and effective doses as antiinflammatory. This study used method carrageenan induced rats paw edema. The test animals were fasted for 18 hours, were divided randomly into 5 groups then were measured paw volume. Each group were successived by PGA 5%, extract dose of 500 mg, 750 mg, 1 g, and 4,5 mg of diclofenac sodium/kg BB rats. Rats were left for 1 hour then were induced with carrageenan. Paw volume was measured on 1st hour until the 6th after carrageenan induction. Edema volume versus time graph was made to calculated AUC to calculated the percentage antiinflammatory. The results showed that ethanol extract of the leaves of the breadnut had inflammatory effect on carrageenan induced rats paw edema. Effective doses of ethanol extract of breadnut leaves as antiinflammatory was doses group of 500 mg/kg BB rats. Keywords: Leaf of breadnut, Artocarpus communis, antiinflammatory, carrageenan, paw edema.
