Abstract

Angsana (Pterocarpus indicus Willd) leaves is the one of plant that can be used as a traditional medicine for diabetic mellitus. Previous research states that a dose of 250 mg/kg BW angsana leaves ethanol extract able to lower blood glucose level in diabetic rats. Angsana leaves is expected contain flavonid, saponin, alkaloid, tannin that can be used as antidiabetic. This research aims to know fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, water of angsana leaves ethanol extracts activity as antidiabetic on male white rats wistar strain induced by alloxan. The method used in this research is the method of induced by alloxan. The test animals were divided into 6 groups, each group consist of 5 rats. Group one was given CMC-Na 0.5% as negative control, group two was given glibenclamide 0.45 mg/kgBW as positive control, group three was given angsana leaves ethanol extract 250 mg/kgBW, group four was given n-hexane fraction 91,04 mg/kgBW, group five was given ethyl acetate fraction 50,23 mg/kgBW, group six was given water fraction 108,73 mg/kgBW. Treatment of diabetic rats for 14 days with 4 times the blood sampling at 0, 3, 7, and 14 day. The results showed that the fractions of angsana (Pterocarpus indicus Willd) leaves ethanol extract have activity as an antidiabetic comparable with positive control (glibenclamide).
