Abstract
Patients with hypertension have to take medication for a lifetime to maintain a normal blood pressure and prevent complications. One of the problems in the treatment of hypertension is patient non-adherence to treatment so counseling is needed to improve adherence in hypertensive patients. The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of counseling in PROLANIS activities on medication adherence of patients with hypertension. Measuring the level of adherence using Morisky Medication Adherencea Scale (MMAS-8) questionnaires. The method used in this research is The One group pretest posttest design which the subjects in this study consists only one group was given questionnaires and counseling. This study uses a pre-test before treatment and post-test after treatment. Samples used in the study amounted to 35 people who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results showed counseling can improve medication adherence in hypertensive patients (P=0,000). Improved hypertensive patient adherence affect a decrease in systolic blood pressure (P=0.000) but did not significantly affect diastolic blood pressure (P=0,077). Factors that affect the characteristics of the respondent was aged patients adherence (P=0,040) and patient education (P=0,032). Keywords: counseling, adherence, hypertension.
