Abstract
The shift in the social, economic , political as well as advances in technology and communication is currently impact the emergence of individualistic attitudes in adolescents . Individualist attitudes associated with empathy and altruistic behavior of each individual . The reseach aimed to determine the correlation between empathy and altruistic behavior adolescents, to determine the level of empathy. This study used Quantitatif methods and sampel collection was done by cluster random sampling. The hypothesis was ; there is positive correlation between empathy and behavior altruistic of adolescents. Subjects in this study were students in grade XI and XII SMK Muhammadiyah I Gondangrejo belonging to the age group 16 to 18 years, as many as 65 students. Data collecting method were using altruistic behavior scale and empathy scale. The method used for data analysis is the pearson product moment by Karl Pearson with the help of program SPSS 23.0 Windows Release. The result of the data analyzing showed coefficient correlation ; 0,790 with p = 0,000 (p < 0,01). It proved that there is a very significant and positive correlation between empathy and altruistic behavior of the subject. ). So, the hypothesis that was proposed in the study is accepted as a very significant extent. It means that; there is a positive correlation in a very significant level between group cohesiveness and social interaction of teenager; that the more group cohesiveness they have, the more social interaction they gain too, and vise versa. Then, based on the data, it result the highest percentage on empathy at 50,8% which is belonged to high classification, while altruistic behaviour variable stand at 58,5% which include in very high category.
