Abstract
Avocado (Persea americana Mill.) plant is one of medical plants for the treatment of bacterial infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus, because it has contents of flavonoid, saponin and polifenol that are able to give an antibacterial effect. This study was aimed to know the ointment preparation which had been made had a good physical quality, knowing the activity and most optimal concentration from ointment preparation ethanolic extract of avocado leaves as a healer Staphylococcus aureus infection. The method used was maceration with the 96% ethanolic solvent, therefore, it was obtained the ethanolic extract of avocado leaves. The formulas avocado leaves extract ointment were made in three concentrations: 5%, 10%, and 15% mixed with hydrocarbon basis used for the test of Staphylococcus aureus infection. The parameters observed were the duration of healing, and the amount Staphylococcus aureus bacteria colony from the pus of rabbits skin. The data obtained were analyzed used one-way ANOVA (significance p<0.05). The results of the study showed that ointment ethanolic extract of avocado leaves with the hydrocarbon basis resulted in the ointment preparation with a good physical quality. Avocado leaves extract ointment at concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 15% had a healing activity against Staphylococcus aureus infection, and at a concentration of 15% showed optimal results in healing the infection comparable to the positive control as a parameter. Statistically, if being viewed from the duration healing, formula III with a positive control has the same healing time.
