Abstract
Counseling is the component of pharmaceutical care indicated to improve therapeutic product, by maximizing the use of appropriate medicines. Diabetes Mellitus therapeutic failure is due to the patients’ poor ability of self management including drug use incompliance. The objective of research was to find out the effect of counseling in Prolanis activity on the treatment compliance in the patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Puskesmas Pajang Surakarta. The research method employed was The One Group Pretest Posttest design, in which a group of subjects underwent preliminary assessment as pretest before counseling and final assessment as posttest. The measurement of compliance level was conducted using Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8) given to 35 patients with purposive sampling method. The result of research showed that counseling administration affected significantly the treatment compliance level in the patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus with Paired Sample t-Test obtaining value of 0.000 (P < 0.05), while on blood glucose level with chi-square obtaining value of 0.012 (P < 0.05). Sociodemographic factors affecting the patients’ compliance level were age, education, and occupation. Keywords: Counseling, Diabetes Mellitus Type 2, MMAS-8 adherence
